Chicken Wings Recipe

Updated: Nov 10, 2023

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds (about 1 kg) chicken wings

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste for spiciness)

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for coating, optional)

  • Cooking spray or extra vegetable oil for greasing

For the Sauce (Optional):

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter

  • 1/2 cup hot sauce (like Frank's RedHot)

  • 1 tablespoon honey (adjust to taste)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). This high temperature will help make the chicken wings crispy.

  2. Prepare the Chicken Wings:

    • If your chicken wings are whole, you can cut them into three parts: the drumette, the wingette, and the tip. Discard the tips or save them for making chicken stock.

    • Place the chicken wings in a large bowl.

  3. Season the Wings:

    • Drizzle the vegetable oil over the chicken wings and toss them to coat evenly.

    • In a small bowl, combine the salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Sprinkle this seasoning mixture over the chicken wings and toss to coat them evenly. If you want your wings to be extra crispy, you can also toss them in flour at this point. However, it's optional.

  4. Prepare the Baking Sheet:

    • Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top. Grease the wire rack with cooking spray or a little vegetable oil to prevent the wings from sticking.

  5. Arrange the Wings:

    • Place the seasoned chicken wings on the greased wire rack, making sure they are spaced apart. This allows for better air circulation and even cooking.

  6. Bake the Wings:

    • Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the chicken wings for 45-50 minutes or until they are crispy and fully cooked. You may want to turn the wings over halfway through the cooking time to ensure even crispiness.

  7. Prepare the Sauce (Optional):

    • In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Stir in the hot sauce and honey. Mix well and heat until the sauce is heated through. You can adjust the amount of hot sauce and honey to your taste for spiciness and sweetness.

  8. Coat the Wings in Sauce (Optional):

    • Once the chicken wings are done baking, you can either dip them in the sauce or brush the sauce over the wings. Toss them in a large bowl with the sauce to coat them evenly.

  9. Serve:

    • Serve the chicken wings hot with your choice of dipping sauces, such as ranch or blue cheese dressing, and celery sticks or carrot sticks.

Enjoy your homemade chicken wings!
